Trash to Cash

Your waste is already worth money. Now you get paid for it.

EcoCash collects recyclables from universities, offices and housing societies, sorts them, and sells them in bulk. Drop something in the bin, scan the QR code, and spend the points on cafeteria credit, vouchers, tickets and mobile balance.

How it works

Waste โ†’ collection โ†’ sorting โ†’ recycling company โ†’ revenue

Four steps, and the person recycling only has to do the first two.

  1. Step 1

    Drop

Bottles, cans, cardboard and paper go into a marked EcoCash bin.

  2. Step 2

    Scan & photograph

The QR sticker opens the app. Pick the item, count it, snap a photo, and points land instantly.

  3. Step 3

    Collect & sort

Bins report their fill level, so the van only visits bins that are actually full.

  4. Step 4

    Sell in bulk

Sorted material goes to recycling mills that already exist โ€” no plant of our own.

Business model

Three ways we earn from one operation

No single line has to carry the company โ€” which is what makes it survivable in year one.

Recyclable resale

Bulk plastic, aluminium, cardboard and paper sold at market rates. Aluminium alone fetches around Rs 360 per kilogram.

Service contracts

Universities, offices and housing societies pay a monthly waste-management fee for the bins, the collection and the reporting.

Sponsorship

Brands pay for bin branding and in-app placement, and co-fund the rewards students claim.

Worked example

One university. One month. Bottles only.

1,000 students recycling 10 bottles each โ€” before we count a single can, box or sheet of paper.

On top of that
2 more lines

We do not build a recycling plant. We sell to the mills that already exist โ€” which is what keeps the startup cost small enough to launch on a single campus.

Why points, not cash

Users get value. Sponsors pay for most of it.

Paying cash for every bottle would sink the margin. Points instead buy perks our partners already want to give away โ€” so cafeterias, shops and brands share the reward cost with us instead of it all landing on our side.
